One address, one person reading it, and a reply that arrives at the pace of a hobby rather than a business.

Write to hello@global-route.org. I have deliberately left it as plain text rather than a link, because the automated harvesters got very good at the linked version some years ago and I got very tired of the results. Type it out; it takes four seconds.

Things I genuinely enjoy answering: questions about ferry timetables and whether the connection I described still runs (it often does not), which lens took a particular frame, whether a walk is manageable in November, and corrections when I have got a name or a distance wrong. I have been corrected on Norwegian place names more than once and I am grateful every time.

Things I do not answer, and I say this without any hard feelings: offers of advertising, guest posts, sponsored paragraphs, link exchanges, "content partnerships", and requests for a discount code. There are no codes. Nothing here is sponsored, nothing is affiliated, and the only thing I am selling is the mild suggestion that you take the slower train. Those messages go quietly into a folder and stay there.

If you recognise a place in one of the photographs and want to help me pin down the caption, please write. This is my favourite kind of letter. Several images in the gallery carry vague labels because I lost my notes, or because I photographed a headland from a moving boat and never learned its name. Readers have already fixed two of them. A rough guess is welcome; certainty is not required.

On timing: I read everything, usually within a week, and reply within two or three. If I am away, which happens for a fortnight or so at a stretch, it will be longer. If a month has passed in silence, assume the message went astray rather than that I was being rude, and send it again. That has happened often enough that I no longer take offence at the nudge.
